If you ever wandered through the children’s section at The Bay in Kelowna’s Orchard Park Mall, chances are you’ve seen them — those bold, colorful alphabet and number blocks that stood proudly on display for decades. For over 30 years, they welcomed little shoppers and sparked imaginations. And now? They’ve found a new home.

This spring, I had the chance to purchase these iconic blocks during The Bay’s closing sale. When I saw them, my heart skipped a beat. I knew exactly what they were. Not just display pieces — but symbols of countless childhood memories in our community.

As a photographer who cherishes emotion and meaning behind every image, I couldn’t resist. These blocks are more than just props — they’re a bridge between generations. Parents who once toddled past them now bring their own little ones in for milestone photos. It’s full-circle in the best way.

I named my studio “Little Joys” because that’s what I hope to bottle up in every photo: the little moments, the giggles, the in-between glances that often mean the most. And now, with these blocks, we’re adding a little piece of Okanagan retail history to the joy.
