Potty Learning with Our Supernova: Capturing the Wild & Wonderful Milestones

Writer: Deanna DunhamDeanna Dunham

They say the third baby raises themselves, and let me tell you—Niko took that as a challenge. At 2.5 years old, my wild, free-spirited, completely untrainable little force of nature is embarking on what some call potty training. But let’s be real—it’s more like potty learning because Niko does things on his terms, at his pace, and preferably while running at full speed.

We’ve nicknamed him our Supernova, and if you’ve met him, you understand why. He’s an explosion of energy, leaving a trail of mischief, joy, and occasional destruction in his wake. The thought of trying to convince him to sit still on a potty for longer than three seconds? Hilarious. But here we are, celebrating the small wins (like when he actually tells us before he pees on the floor instead of after).

Milestones like these—messy, chaotic, imperfect—are the ones I never want to forget. They’re the moments that define these fleeting years. And while I may not be pulling out my camera every time he almost makes it to the potty, I do believe in capturing these milestones before they’re gone.

That’s why I created Little Joys Studio.

From newborn snuggles to first birthdays, cake smashes, wobbly first steps, and sitting sessions, this little space was designed to freeze time for just a moment. Because let’s be honest—one minute they’re tiny and helpless, and the next they’re streaking down the hallway yelling “I don’t need pants!” (Looking at you, Niko).

Little Joys Studio is perfect for:

🎂 Cake Smashes – Because making a mess should be encouraged sometimes. Little Joys has the perfect, easy to wipe clean flooring. Best part... Mom doesn't have to clean up!

📸 Sitting Sessions – Capturing that magical phase where they can sit up but can’t yet run away.

🚼 Crawling & First Steps – Those wobbly little legs deserve to be documented.

👶 Newborn Portraits – Before they start talking back.

🎉 First Birthdays – Because surviving the first year deserves a celebration.

As much as I joke about the chaos, I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Watching Niko grow, learn, and assert his full Supernova personality is the greatest privilege of my life. And even though this is my last round of potty learning, first steps, and baby milestones, I know I’ll always have these memories—captured, cherished, and frozen in time.

If you’re in the thick of these milestones too, let’s make sure they don’t slip away unnoticed. Book a session at Little Joys Studio, and let’s celebrate the chaos together.

Because one day, they’ll stop needing us to hold their hand—and we’ll want to remember every little moment leading up to that.
